It’s still pretty warm out and all these sweaters in the store just make me want to fall over from heat exhaustion. Do you feel me on that?
But let me tell you that there is a reason retailers make the switch to winter apparel in August. Once the weather turns, you will be glad you picked up your favorite color sweater a month in advance, so its there when you need it.
I have heard from many moms and busy gals alike telling me that if they wait further into the season, it’s hard to find exactly what it is they want or love for fall and winter seasons (not to mention that bathing suits will make there way back into stores mid-January). It makes sense though, because as a small retail owner myself, the hot items always sell out first. So you have to be quick to get what it is you are craving for the season ahead.
With back-to-school coming to a close, it’s now time to focus on YOU. I have put together some amazing looks to help you see what’s trending for fall and how to put them to use now.
So let’s dive in, and don’t be shy to comment with your thoughts below on what looks are must-haves for your fall wardrobe.
Look #1: The button-up tunic that will change your life (no, really, I mean it).
A light layer in warmer months can be the perfect piece to transition into fall. The Heather Button Up comes in charcoal gray and olive, making it the right neutral fall shade to pair with just about anything. Try it over some of your summer floral prints or even add a utilitarian feel to that striped knit dress. It’s so versatile just as a layering piece, but can also be worn simply buttoned up with jeans or leggings and booties.
*Style tip: Make sure you use the “rule of three” when you wear this button up with just jeans. That means, add a simple necklace or earrings to make the outfit complete.
Look #2: Color File Operation Olive.
A simple change in your closet’s color code can make summery pieces feel fall ready with little effort. Like our Farm-to-Table Maxi Dress, this tank dress is cool enough to wear now with sandals, and as the weather turns, pair your booties and a cropped tan moto jacket for full fall season effect.
You will be seeing lots of olive in my store this fall, like the twill leggings in olive. Olive tones pair perfectly with reds for holiday season (shown with our time for plaid top, but yet it complements summer tunic tops with ease.
*Style trivia: Did you know olive is considered a neutral color? Black isn’t the only color that “goes with everything”
Look #3: Easy separates that make fall feel like its already here.
From a simple rib knit cardigan (with pockets) to an effortless chambray button-up, adding pieces to your closet that can be styled quickly and layered with jackets, tights and scarfs is really key to making that transitional season style work to your benefit.
We just got in some separates from our favorite brand in store, Down East Basics. They are like the comfort-meets-style brand that every gal dreams of. My personal favorite is the striped ponte skirt in taupe. Such an amazing shade of taupe and it’s so fun to pair with other fall prints or just a simple denim top.
Lastly, black really does go with just about everything (minus my skin tone, but that’s a story for another blog post, wink, wink). The Cindy Blouse is an easy cut blouse that will layer perfectly under jackets, scarfs and with winter leggings.
Changing the color palette and simply adding some layers is really all you need to kick-start this upcoming winter. I hope these looks inspire you to go through your closet and find the right outfitting for your fall activities.
